Geophysical Support & Advice

Winseis Geophysical Consulting GmbH is owned and managed by Christian Hanitzsch who provides geophysical support and advice for subsurface projects

As former Chief Geophysicist of Wintershall Dea, I possess a wide spread of technical and management skills for oil&gas, CCS, geothermal and unique "Win-with-Seismic" projects.

In your projects, you benefit from my 32 years of experiences in oil & gas companies (Wintershall Dea, Wintershall, TotalEnergies, Elf)

Type of consulting services

I am available as consultant either directly (via Winseis Geophysical Consulting GmbH) or for multi-disciplinary projects via Terra Geoservice GmbH, Terra Stream Energy Norge AS or Terra Stream Energy GmbH. I would like to thank these companies for hiring me for their projects that they execute on behalf of their clients. I am available for part-time, fixed-term or longer projects, mobile to travel internationally to support business needs or to relocate temporarily (but not offshore).

Languages: English, German, French (basic). German passport. Academic title: Dr. rer nat. (Ph.D equivalent, from Karlsruhe University). EAGE & SEG member. Past workshops convenor. Programming experience.

Consulting services

As former Chief Geophysicist of Wintershall Dea and geophysical consultant since autumn 2025, I am experienced to

• manage & execute technical projects: quantitative Interpretation, well-seismic tie, AVO, seismic inversion, depth conversion, ...

• plan & supervise seismic processing projects for the client

• provide quality assurance/control including assessment of uncertainties and risks

• support in M&A projects (for seller or buyer)

• advise senior management on business-critical technical and strategic issues

• provide advice on geophysical software (to vendors or clients)

• develop guidelines or strategic documents regarding geophysical aspects

• support HR on matters related to geophysicists

• mentor and train young geophysicists in a team

My Advanced Technical Skills & Experiences

Expert in seismic reservoir characterization / quantitative interpretation (AVO modelling, seismic attributes, spectral decomposition, seismic inversion, 4D feasibility, …) and managing seismic acquisition & processing projects of seismic contractors. Very experienced user of specialized geophysical software (Hampson-Russell, RokDoc, GeoTeric, Mesa, …).

Experience in time/depth conversion & seismic interpretation (PaleoScan, Petrel, …), borehole seismic, micro-seismicity and non-seismic Geophysics (gravity, magnetics, EM). Experience mainly in conventional, but also unconventional reservoirs (Argentina). Nearly global experience due to geophysical projects in headquarter service teams, local business units (Norway, Qatar, Libya, USA) and during business travels.

Focussed to reduce uncertainties and understand project risks. Good understanding of multidisciplinary work in teams. Experience-based judgment about specific project results, communication with all stakeholders with suggestions for pragmatic solutions. Ability to compare and evaluate trends and innovations at industry level.

Latest News & Completed Consulting Projects

Most of my consultancy projects are confidential. When I get permission for a project that I contributed to, I show it here:

Conference & Exhibition

EAGE Annual in Aberdeen (June 2026)

I attended the EAGE Annual 2026 Conference & Exhibition (and workshops, 7-12 June) in Aberdeen and met friends and former and present colleagues and clients.
I co-chaired the session on "Seismic Inversion Techniques for Reservoir Characterisation" and gave a demo at the Eliis booth on enhancing quantitative interpretation efficiency using PaleoScan™ (thank you to Eliis for inviting me as guest presenter).

Integrated Geomodelling of the Gro Gas Discovery

Multi-disciplinary subsurface study by Terra Stream Energy Norge AS for the Norwegian Offshore Directorate

Gas discoveries in tight formations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) present significant development challenges. An integrated static evaluation of the Gro discovery has been conducted by Terra Stream Energy on behalf of the Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD). The study includes geological interpretation, petrophysical analysis, and volumetric assessment, with the objective of defining the in‑place gas potential and identifying key uncertainty drivers.

I would like to thank Terra Stream Energy Norge AS for hiring me for this study. My contributions covered time/depth conversion and relevant seismic amplitude analyses.

The whole study was presented on 29 April 2026 as a FORCE seminar in Stavanger:  https://www.sodir.no/en/force/events/in-personintegrated-geomodelling-of-the-gro-gas-discovery/

For more details or access to report or project, please contact the Norwegian Offshore Directorate.
